Hi Fam!

A couple of weeks ago, I had a ball at alma mater Dallas Theological Seminary discussing biblical themes in recent Hollywood films with Dr. Darrell Bock on The Table Podcast.

As promised, here’s the VIDEO. This is PART I where we focus on Paramount’s NOAH. PART II drops next week and we discussed Son of God, God is Not Dead, and Heaven Is For Real.

FYI: All of the films are burning up the box office right now:

* NOAH, which was made for $125 million, has grossed over $300 million worldwide.
* GOD IS NOT DEAD was produced for $5 million and has grossed an estimated $48 million.
* SON OF GOD was recut from the History Channel’s THE BIBLE series and produced for $10 million and has made more than $60 million.
* HEAVEN IS FOR REAL opened this Easter weekend in the #2 position after CAPTAIN AMERICA. It was made for $14 million and has grossed over $29 million in 5 days.

Hollywood and Christians are paying attention, Fam! But this video isn’t about box office numbers. It’s 2 colleagues chatting it up about what we thought of the films themselves.

Pull up a seat, grab a cup of MoJo and chime in. Or listen on your commute and hit me when you get home. I’d love to hear your feedback as well!

Lots of love from the LaLa,
Naima

  1. “If Hollywood is a dark place it’s because we’ve removed the light…let’s bring the ball back to the sandbox” This is why I love you sis! Excellent interview and pov’s

  2. Hi, I really enjoyed watching “Table Talks” with you and Dr. Bock. I am always looking and listening when I see “Biblical” movie themes, realizing that it will not be word for word biblical correct. There has to be room for the imagination to evolve. There are so many “between” the times in bible history that we do not have all that happened thousands of years ago. Speaking of which we do not have the time of happenings from Jesus’ birth to when He was found not to be in the presence of his parents, at age 12 but was found in the Synagogue talking with the elders. From there until the start of His ministry is 18 years in which we have no knowledge of happenings during that space of time. But we can imagine that life happened. I am intrigued by the unknown and just to imagine what could have happened. I have not seen the movie “NOAH” yet, nor the others. I am a member of the CMA (Christian Media Association) here in Dallas ( not active) but I remember meeting Samuel Goldwyn (he’s Jewish) at one of our meeting, and what he said, really got me thinking. He said that he said that there is the 20/80 principle, the 80 is the reached media and the 20 is the unreached Christian population and he want to reach that population. Anytime that I see a Biblical Theme movie, I go not expecting it to be Biblical correct, but is always watchful for points for dialogue.
    Waiting for Part II.
    Have a Blessed day.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and weighing in, Margrite! I appreciate you taking the time, both to watch the video and to share your insight.

I’m also intrigued by what you shared regarding Samuel Goldwyn. Good stuff.

Appreciate you! And please keep in touch!
      Thanks,
      Naima
