Superman soared back…

into theatres this weekend.
And looks like it made up for its last fiasco.

Audiences turned out to tune of approximately $125.1 million in U.S. box office tickets. It cost Warner Brothers about $225 million, but it looks like it’ll
recoup that and much more.

We’re going to see it today, thanks to my dad, who gifted us with Father’s Day tickets (though my hubby’s not a dad yet). Isn’t that cool? We’ll have to let
you know our thoughts after we experience this new reboot.

Man of Steel

Man of Steel boasts a new actor in the lead role, Emmy Award-winning British actor Henry Cavill, star of Showtime’s The Tudors.

Batman/Dark Knight’s writer/director, Christopher Nolan, is responsible for the story. 300’s director, Zack Snyder, is running the show. Russel Crowe, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishbourne round out the cast.

Zack, the director, is quoted as saying they wanted to humanize Superman and make him more relatable in this reboot.

Henry, the actor, says “I just wanted to bring Superman into the modern world. Hopefully I bring a version that everyone can relate to.”

Sounds like the masses liked this more relatable, humanized Superman.

What about you?
Have you seen it?
What do you think?

  1. I went to see it last night. It was really good, and it’s chock full of imagery and references to Superman being a Christ-like figure, I felt like it had a lot more than other versions of Superman I’ve seen. Some people say Christ, some people say Moses. I could see both but there were a LOT of similarities to Christ, and I didn’t feel like that was just me reading into it. I don’t read comic books, but I do watch the movies, but someone once told me that Superman is the comic book hero that has the most blatant “Christian” themes. I also read an interview with the film’s director earlier today and he said all those Christ references were in the original story so he just kept it all. Like I said, I didn’t read the books so I wouldn’t know, but the movie definitely did.

    1. Hi Avril,

Just got back from the film, and I’ll try to save my enthusiasm until tomorrow’s post; but yes, you are correct. There was a whole LOT of similarities to the Christ story. And yes, the original storyline in the comic books was written that way as well. By the time Super did the 360 in the cross-like position, I was like, I think they don’t want us to miss this reference. LOL!

FYI, Fam, we waited to the end of the credits, as we do with all THE AVENGERS films, and WB didn’t leave a clue as to what’s next. Just so you know… if you’ve been waiting for awhile to go to the bathroom, as the film is about 2.5 hours. Just go head on to the restroom.

Thanks, always, Avril! Appreciate your insight. You nailed it. Whole LOT of similarities!
