New Year, New Resolution! What’s Yours?

Do you make New Year’s resolutions?
I do. And we’re in good company. 40-45% of Americans will kick off 2014 with at least 1 goal. Surveys show the TOP RESOLUTIONS are still weight loss, exercise, healthier eating & improving finances and jobs.
What’s your 2014 resolution?
My top one is to lead our Hope in the Hills fam through the Bible in a year. Each person will read or listen to 15 minutes daily using the Chronological Reading Plan on Bible.com, and I’ll preach through the Books on Sundays and write a weekly post if needed.
You’re welcome to join in too. You can get the app on your phone, use your tablet or computer, use your Bible, listen while you walk or drive or sip your coffee or tea, eat at meal. So many options! Experiencing the entire Biblical narrative in a year is truly life-changing.
Sound ambitious?!
But it’s doable. I’ve read through the Bible in a year many times. My challenge now will be to keep all of us motivated. We all love story, and GENESIS starts with a pretty fantastic one! But what happens on Day 4 when we hit JOB? :=) (This is in chronological order).
Job is actually very relevant. Haven’t we all wondered “why bad things happen to good people?” Doesn’t seem fair, does it? Why aren’t our own lives more perfect? Why do we have to endure hard times? Going through Job’s story helps us make more sense of our own.
OK, Real Talk:
Only 8-30% of us will keep our resolutions for more than 2 weeks. Success lies in our commitment, preparation and accountability, but the BIG SECRET is whatever we resolve has to meet a significant need. We change our eating, exercise and finances out of necessity.
So, I’m encouraging all of us in 2014 to create a daily space with God and His Word because this meets our greatest needs in navigating life. We are created for relationship with Him and to not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt 4:4, Deut 8:6). If we’re daily in worship and communion with our Lord and in community with His family, we’re not promised an easy life, but an adventurous journey that we never walk alone, which subsequently helps in meeting every other need.
I’m excited! What about you?
What’s your resolution?
Lots of love from the LaLa,

So I’m in! Downloading the app now… My other resolution is to change my eating habits – both are out of necessity! As always, thanks for your timely words.
Wonderful, Adria! Welcome aboard!
Let us know if you have any questions regarding the app or reading plan. I pray that God meets you (and all of us) in special and surprising ways on this journey.
I hear you re: the eating. I may have to cut back on my Georgia sweet tooth. LOL!
Beautiful pic. Lots of love,
Naima
