HAPPY NEW YEAR, FAM!

“In the beginning….”
“Once upon a time…”
“A long time ago in a galaxy far away…”
Every GREAT story has a GREAT beginning, and ours is no different.

Arguably the ‘greatest’ story of all time, our narrative of creation, fall and redemption in the Bible is the first real block-bluster and tops the all-time bestsellers lists with over 100 million annual hard-copy sales and an estimated 6 billion lifetime worldwide sales (not including free downloadable apps and internet editions).

IN THE BEGINNING

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
That’s how it all started. We’re not an accident. Our earth was meticulously formed. God created something out of nothing, light out of darkness, suns, moons, stars, planets, life. God intricately fashioned and made us in His own image. We have purpose and meaning and will. You and I are not alone. We are loved.

2014: NEW YEAR

That means something in 2014. As you start a whole new year, what’s your “In the beginning…”? What do we, as creative children of The Creator, want to create this year? What’s our story for 2014? Though we’re not in control of all that will occur, we can certainly have ideas about our desired plots. It’s a new year. Fresh start. What are you beginning?

Bible in a Year, 15 Minutes a Day

Many have joined me and our Hope in the Hills fam in our quest to go through the Bible in a year for 2014. Each person is reading or listening to 15 minutes daily using the Chronological Reading Plan on Bible.com, and I’ll be preaching through the Books on Sundays and writing a weekly summary post like this one for those who sign up to receive it via email or Facebook. You can get the app on your phone, use your computer or Bible, and/or listen to the audio version while exercising or eating or driving. There are plenty of options.

GENESIS

So, we’ve started “in the beginning” with GENESIS. Many Biblical scholars credit Moses as the author of the first 5 books of the Bible, including GENESIS, recounting God’s creation of the world, mankind and His chosen people. The first 3 days of readings take us through the amazing epics of Creation, Adam and Eve, the Fall, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Flood, all the way up to the Tower of Babel. By the weekend, we hit JOB, as the Bible reading plan we’re doing is in chronological order of how the events happened. After a week in a half, then we’re back to GENESIS with Abraham and his family. DRAMA!!!! I love God’s Word, Fam. So excited.

PRAYER
May I briefly pray for us?

Lord, as we meet You daily and journey through Your Word, please order our steps accordingly. We trust You to use whatever Scriptures we’re reading or listening to each day to minister to our unique stations in life and draw us closer to You and one another. Please meet us in our steps of faith, and please daily reveal more of Yourself and Your precious Son by Your Spirit. And please enable us to not just be hearers, but doers of Your Word. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
