What a week in TV!
In prep for their annual New York upfront presentations to advertisers this week, the BIG 5 networks have been announcing the TV shows they’re renewing for FALL 2013 and those they are kicking to the curb.
In a Nutshell
CBS has grown quite comfortable in the ratings with the top scripted shows like NCIS and NCIS:LA, but ABC has gained leverage with Dancing with the Stars and created buzz with soaps like Scandal and Revenge in addition to long time Grey’s Anatomy. FOX usually picks ups traction with American Idol, though numbers are down and it’s rumored that all 4 judges will get axed after the finale, but the show will come back. The Voice helped NBC when it first started airing, but the Peacock has been struggling of late. It needs help.
E-ONLINE has the list of renewals. Here’s what they have thus far:

So what do you think, Fam?
Are you even still watching network TV or have you moved to cable i.e. Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Homeland?
What can the children watch?
Is it me, or does the lineup seem to a little sparse for the kids? We had The Cosby Show back in the day. What’s the 2013 Cosby Show? What are your children watching?
Looking for More Light
I’m constantly reminded of Luke 11:33-36. Part of that passage reminds us that “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness.”
I’m constantly looking for that light, Fam. I know we’ve got writers from our family of faith out here, but we sure do need more. Are you praying for us? Are you preparing your sons and daughters to train and come skilled and ready to create material that keeps our eyes healthy?
Something to ponder,

It has been a crazy week in TV! I did hear that NBC is trying to resurrect some more family-friendly sitcoms with some of their pilots for the fall, with Michael J. Fox’s new show, and other shows like “Sean Saves the World”, “Welcome to the Family” and “About a Boy.” I haven’t seen any previews for any of these shows, but but they say they’re trying to get back to the days of “Cosby” so we’ll see how that goes…
Thanks, Avril!
Yes, some of the pilots do look promising. I hadn’t even listed those. I was going to wait until after the week’s announcements, as it sounds like they’re still sorting everything out. NBC has nothing to lose at this point, coming in last place in the ratings. So, they should just take the huge risk at family-friendly and see how it works out! It can’t hurt! :=)
Look forward to catching up soon,
Naima
Thanks Naima for this list. I actually look at TV from time to time and the show I liked that no one else seemed to was Happy Endings. I don’t watch much else except Modern Family and Scandal. Surprise to see Grey’s Anatomy still hanging on. I never get the shows on CBS so it’s hard to see how any of these shows stay on! Great Jobs and prayers for continued success my friend! 🙂
Arthur! Man, how are you?!
Great to hear from you.
So sorry to hear that Happy Endings got cancelled, but it looks like your other two are back: Modern Family and Scandal. Yes, it is amazing that Grey’s Anatomy is still hanging in, but they’re making loads off advertising and they keep writing in new doctors. Maybe it’ll end up on TV as long as ER was. Wasn’t that like 10 years or something?
Thanks for the prayers and encouraging words! We really appreciate it.
Congrats on your new site.
Go forth!
Naima
Thanks for this Naima!
NCIS…Yes!!!! Law and Order SVU…Yes!!!!
All the rest -really haven’t seen (ok…I have watched NCIS: LA a few times and Arrow).
Oh for the days of Cosby!
Mike
I hear you, Mike.
NCIS and NCIS:LA are pretty good. And Law & Order set the bar. SVU was still hanging on after all the other ones rested.
Kevin got into Arrow. I had a hard time connecting. Maybe I’ll have to revisit it.
Yes, for the days of a good old episode of Cosby. I’m so glad for the archives. :=)
